Bocage hedges

I was asked to describe how to make bocage for Flames of War similar to these:

So sure!, Here it goes, I will try to explain in text, but mostly I will rely on the pictures!

the first step is to decide on the size of the bases, we have a whole bunch of hedges in our gaming club so for me i just coppied what we had, but those are based on the size of the battlefront roads:

The battlefront roads 30cm x 7,5cm

so therefore the hedges are sized in roughly the same sizes:

i make the bases from a 2,5 mm mdf sheet but anything similar that will not warp a ton will probably do!

To add some height to the hedges i used som strips of XPS that i cut into the correct shape (roughly 1×2 cm) and length to allow for some openings in the hedges.

These stripes were then glued to the bases and after that covered with spackling paste

To give the hedge some more variation I made some small piles of stones in select areas that were secured with PVA glue.

After this had dried for a few hours (or over night) it all was then painted brown, and then with an ivery drybrush after the brown had dried.

With the base paint added it was time for the final toutches I, applied static grass on the lower parts of the slopes,

And then added the foleage ( created by following the terrain tutor)

To stabilize the foleage I used skewers that I cut into 2-3cm lengths

And then it was just PVA galore to fasten the foleage! I think maybe with a good hot glue gun that would probably work better, but mine produces an awfull lot of tiny strings everywhere, so I opted for the PVA route!

And that’s it! Then just repeat and finally you will have a entire (small) board of bocage!
